It’s Official - Christmas Came Early to ESWA!
It’s official! Christmas came early this year at ESWA.
At our gathering on 13 September 2026, there was no mistaking the festive spirit in the room. We had not one, not two, but five Lady Santa Clauses bearing gifts and spreading joy as ESWA celebrated some very special milestones in the lives of our members.
Kicking off the celebrations was our indomitable Ochiora Aneke, the Doyenne of ESWA, who recently celebrated her grand 90th birthday.
Yes, folks - 9-0! 🎉
As she walked majestically into the meeting hall, you could easily have been forgiven for thinking she was only 70. Personally, I remain somewhat sceptical about this 90 business. One day, when I am brave enough (or perhaps sufficiently drunk!), I shall have the guts to ask her for proof. 😉
Our other birthday celebrants were the elegant Mrs Jacinta Omechi and the effervescent Lady Justina Onah. While both ladies are still some distance away from their 90th birthdays, they reminded us that every birthday is a reason to celebrate and an opportunity to thank God, because tomorrow is never guaranteed.
We couldn’t agree more!
Not to be outdone, our ever-youthful and capable Assistant Secretary Mrs Ngozi Ubenyi shocked us all by announcing the recent wedding of her eldest daughter! The collective gasp in the room was palpable because, frankly, this lady doesn’t look a day over 30!
And, being the inquisitive person that I am, I simply had to ask her age. She told me.
All I can say is that this woman has clearly discovered the fountain of youth. I have therefore appointed myself her Manager, with the intention of bottling that youth serum and bringing it to market. 😁
To God be the glory!
Finally, we had the beautiful and unassuming Mrs Vicky Anibueze, who brought gifts to express her heartfelt thanks to ESWA for the tremendous support she received following the recent passing of her beloved husband.
She spoke movingly about how deeply touched she was by the way ESWA members - young and old, new and longstanding - rallied around her during her difficult time. She said she was joyfully overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support and simply wanted to show her appreciation.
There were beverages, cakes and snacks galore, all generously complemented by the scrumptious spread prepared by our hostess of the day, Mrs Chioma Onyia. Needless to say, nobody was complaining!
The gathering was rounded off with uplifting and befitting prayers for all the ladies, led by Sister Onyeka Onoh on behalf of ESWA.
As the gathering came to a close, it was lovely to see everyone heading home looking just a little more joyful, contented - and certainly fuller than when they arrived.
If that isn’t the spirit of Christmas arriving early in September, then I honestly don’t know what is!
