ESWA celebrating a life; Comforting a family

Life unfolds in seasons - marked by moments of exhilaration and monotony, of joy and sorrow, of triumph and disappointment. If we are fortunate, life is also long, granting us the privilege of experiencing its many contrasts in abundance. In that time, we are given the sacred opportunity to build, to nurture, and to leave behind a legacy of meaning before our earthly journey comes to an end. For none remains here forever; such is the enduring circle of life.

Among the most cherished legacies we leave are the bonds of family and friendship—relationships that are steadfast, loving, and enduring. These are the people who rejoice in our victories, stand beside us in adversity, and uphold us with strength and compassion when we are most in need.

ESWA embodies that spirit of reliability and love. Like every family, we may at times disagree - occasionally over matters small and fleeting - but when it truly matters, ESWA stands united and unwavering in support of her members.

This was evident on the evening of 28 February 2026, during the wake service held in honour of our sister Vicky Anibueze’s beloved husband, Mr. Boniface Obinna Anibueze, who peacefully returned to the Lord on 20 January 2026. Following the Catholic service, the women of ESWA gathered in solemn yet heartfelt remembrance of Uncle Boniface’s long, loving, and accomplished life. Through songs and gentle celebration, through shared meals and generous support, and through financial contributions offered in solidarity, we surrounded Sister Vicky and her family with comfort and reassurance.

Why does ESWA do this? It is rooted in empathy and in the recognition of our shared human mortality. Death is a universal passage, and in acknowledging this truth, we are called to stand with the bereaved and to live with compassion and kindness. We are reminded that one day, each of us will face loss, and ultimately, our own departure from this world. As the Igbo proverb wisely teaches, “Mbọsi onye kwalụ mmadụ k'ọkwalụ onwe ya” – “The day one buries/celebrates another is the day one buries/celebrates oneself"

Sister Vicky and her family expressed their deep gratitude in words that reflected both humility and heartfelt appreciation:

“My beloved ESWA Sisters, I am deeply moved and profoundly grateful for the special love and affection you have shown to me and my family, both individually and collectively. I have no words but to say, ‘Thank you.’ May Almighty God continue to unite, bless, and guide this Association of Sisters. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

May the soul of Mr. Boniface Obinna Anibueze, and the souls of all the faithfully departed, rest in perfect peace. Amen. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
