Ada Mazi, Caroline Nebechi sharing her wisdom

At ESWA, we believe that caring for our elders is not just a responsibility, but a true blessing. And who better to show us how than our very own sister, Ada Mazi, Mrs. Caroline Nebechi, who has been lovingly supporting elderly people for an incredible 34 years! She even started early—caring for her grandfather as a young girl. Truly inspiring!

In our latest “Laugh and Learn with ESWA” session, Ada Mazi shared her Top 10 Tips for elderly care. Honestly, these aren’t just for seniors—we can all sprinkle them into our own daily routines for longer, healthier, and happier lives.

Here they are:

  1. Start with a Smile and a Chat – A simple “Good morning! Did you sleep well?” goes a long way. Conversations keep hearts warm and spirits lifted.

  2. Keep Moving – Retirement doesn’t mean resting forever. Gentle activity is the secret weapon against dementia.

  3. Sweet Dreams Matter – Prioritise sleep. It’s nature’s best medicine for renewal and energy.

  4. Be Curious About Health – Encourage questions about medication and health. Curiosity keeps the mind sharp!

  5. Soak Up the Sun – A daily dose of Vitamin D = stronger bones + happier moods.

  6. Eat Colourfully – Fruits, pulses, homemade meals—tasty, healthy, and nourishing.

  7. Know Your Numbers – Keep an eye on blood pressure. The golden reading? 120/80.

  8. Stay Hydrated – 8 glasses a day keeps the kidneys happy. (Yes, water is still the real magic potion!)

  9. Stress Less, Live More – Worrying doesn’t add years—it takes them away. Keep anxiety at bay.

  10. Be Joyful! – Join groups like ESWA, laugh often, share stories, and dance a little.

Ada Mazi, we salute you 👏🏾👏🏾. Every single tip is pure gold.

Personally, my favourite is Tip No 9: Stress Less, Live More.

As a self-confessed worrier, I’ve started reciting the Serenity Prayer three times a day to calm my heart. The prayer goes like this:

“Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.”

Amen🙏🏾!

So, here’s to long life, fabulous health, and joyful days—for our elders, for us, and for generations to come. 💕
